Putting this issue together has been such a unique experience for all of us here at beijingkids, having to work from home and under quarantine. As COVID-19 reaches families across the world, those of us who stayed in Beijing through the entire ordeal felt the drain on our local economy and community first hand. Businesses in almost every industry experienced drastic losses, and schools, teachers, parents, and students are facing new challenges as schools in Beijing make plans to reopen.

But it’s in times of crisis that our sense of community truly emerges. As campuses continue to remain closed after the Chinese New Year holiday, teachers at Beijing’s international schools have gone above and beyond their required duties and work hours, giving their students the best e-learning experience they can provide.

No matter where you’re from, for those who call Beijing home, we’ve inherited the city’s spirit of dealing with curve balls, head-on. Whether it’s SARS, pollution, or the latest COVID-19 developments, we Beijingers adapt to changes and find ways to move forward. So in this issue, we look past our current crisis and dig deep into the world of money and finance.
